The following description was provided: ================================================================= Shaper_moldboard_abstract.txt Here are a few pictures of an excellent HSS toolbit I produced under advisement for producing a nice finish cut on steel with a metal shaper. This is a 3/8" Cleveland Mo- Max HSS toolbit which was shaped with a standard bench grinder wheel and thoroughly worked over with a diemaker’s polishing stone from Norton. The "moldboard" is a reference to a farmer’s turning plow pulled by a tractor. The actual piece which does the turning is commonly called a moldboard. This toolbit has a similar feature, which is often referred to "skew cutting" in woodworking. There are three views of the toolbit. shaper_moldboard_1.jpg Front side of the toolbit which is being pushed forward by the shaper ram. Shaper_moldboard_2.jpg Here is a side view of the toolbit. This is the side you would see as the shaper table is being indexed away from you. Curly chips flow off this side. Shaper_moldboard_3.jpg Here is the end view of the toolbit showing the "skew".
