These two photos are of a John Bertram 
and Sons lathe made in Ontario Canada.
 I am curious as to the purpose of the
motor and gear reduction box located on
the end of the bed.  Whatever it drove 
is missing.
   The lathe is very old and worn but it
does the job for the periodic mantenance
jobs it does.  I am still trying to figure 
out how to use the taper attachment.
It is hanging off the back side of the 
carraige but there seems to be no way to
clamp it to the bed to make it stationary.
