Here are some pictures of a lifting setup I made for my Atlas 10” lathe. The idea is to obtain perfect balance by finding a suitable balance point and then using the carriage to fine-tune the setup. I used an Aluminum plate at the top to prevent any damage to the ways. I had a beautiful round ring cold-bent on my bender but alas, the end wasn’t closed and I felt it should be welded for strength. I kinda misformed it by doing some blacksmithing. Oh well. Disclaimer: Do not try this at home, I offer no warranties or guarantees about the construction or the design and its suitability to lifting anything bigger than a paper clip.
