Here is an attachment I made for my Harrison M300 in order to make long thin tapers. These are .25" (6.35mm) diameter at the larger end tapering to 0.080" (2mm) over 6" (150mm). The brass guide has a semi curcular groove to support the rod along its length. The guide is set toward the front of the lathe at the tailstock by the required 0.085" (2.1mm) in order to form the taper. The cut is taken in one pass and the material is EN24T (4340) longtaperfront.jpg - front view of attachment. longtapertop.jpg - top view of attachment with completed piece on top of the brass rod support.
