Adapting a 1 Ton Arbor Press for making tarp grommet installations. Some of the tooling was machined/adapted from the HF 103 pc. Grommet Installation kit SKU 30037. The arbor press ram was mounted in a 4 jaw chuck and drilled/honed to accept the modified HF grommet tools. A cross pin retainer is used, using a .310" steel dowel. Punch Die Set: A block of 1.5" sq. CRS was machined and bored/honed with a .500" central punch hole. I used a section of 1- 1/4" CRS rod, welded to the punch die block, to fit into the recess under the press table. This is through-bolted to the back of the recess wall The punch die was machined from CRS rod, for a snug sliding fit in the ram, and has .001" clearance in the punch die block. It is countersunk on the bottom, to provide a sharp cutting edge. This was stoned to a fine edge. It is neccessary to maintain rig Ideally, these parts should be hardened, but for the limited use these will have, I deemed it unessessary. Grommet Press Set: I turned a steel adapter that fits into the die block, and adapts the bottom grommet die to the block. The upper swaging die was adapted/machined to fit the ram as the punch die was.
