This is a picture of a vise I made for my Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship. The handle was turned as a shaft with the ends reduced in diameter. Two knobs were turned, drilled and countersunk such that the shaft ends fit though the knobs and protruded through the other side. The shaft ends are then peened into the countersunk holes in the knobs. The excess material which didn't fit into the countersunk holes was filed away and then finished with emery cloth.
