He was proud to be fromYorkshire. He was a gifted machinist and orator. He loved woodworking, knife making, metal working and gun smithing. He made his workbenches and usually rebuilt any machine he bought. He was the most happy when he was making his machines sing. He was working on a Mauser action when he passed away after 9 months of battling small cell lung cancer. He treasured his time on the NG and enjoyed "getting into it" with fellow metal crafters. His advice might have sounded harsh at times, but he was a true master at his craft. ==== From Steve Stallings Teenut (Robert Bastow) was one of the most memorable people to ever join us on rec.crafts.metalworking. His knowledge, passion, and "attitude" kept us reading his every post. He contributed many long and useful posts on such things as drill grinding, gun regulations, machining techniques, and shop safety, ... of course, human nature. Ellen Bastow has provided biographical information (above) and allowed us to use the pictures from the web page that she posted. I will repeat Ellen's comments and attempt to add a little on some of the shop photos. teenut04.jpg - Teenut, enjoying the sun at his in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. (Hard to imagine that this could have ever been the nasty old "Bob" that teenut hinted was in his past.) teenut09.jpg - Teenut, being serious, pre-cancer. teenut10.jpg - Sitting at his desk, comtemplating how to respond to the threads on metalworking. Note - the Malaox teenut21.jpg - Robert at a dude ranch in Grant, Colorado in July of 2000. Note the walking stick - he carved this himself. He had the time of his life - riding horses, whitewater rafting and being a ranger. Woodworking_Bench.jpg - We may not have heard much about teenut's interest in woodworking, but it stands to reason that someone who had his love of craftsmanship would persue woodworking. I envy his organization and cleanliness. Metalworking_Bench.jpg - Again neat and clean. Front and center is one of the rifles that he loved. Teenut was working on creating his dream rifle action as a small production/custom order sideline to his new machine shop business. 500Jeffery.jpg, Banner_action.jpg, Bench_and_rifle.jpg - These are additional views of the rifle action on which teenut was working. lathe_general.jpg - This is a picture of teenut's Emco Maier Super 11 lathe. I shared teenut's love for this model. Deckel_FP1.jpg - The dream machine of many precision machinists, so it is only natural that teenut would have used one. Cyl_Grinder.jpg - It is the tall machine on the left. I don't recall teenut mentioning this machine, but it sure looks interesting. ====
